Son of Charles Edward Norman Leith-Hay of Rannes, J.P., D.L., and of the Hon. Louisa Henrietta Valdivia Leith-Hay of Rannes (nee O'Neill), of Kennethmont.

Charles Leith-Hay of Rannes, the last Laird of Leith Hall, is buried in the family burial ground within the walls of the old Kennethmont Kirk. His father died four months before him on 25th May 1939 aged 80. His mother died 14th January 1965 aged 85. They too are buried there.

He was born in Edinburgh on 8th May 1918.
